Visit Regensburg...
and discover a unique historic place.

In 2006, the historic city of Regensburg, situated in central Bavaria at the northernmost point of the Danube river, was declared a UNESCO world heritage site.

Regensburg is in many ways unique among German historic cities. First of all, Regensburg escaped World War II without major damage. Its priceless medieval architecture, mostly from the 12th and 13th centuries, survived the ages and has been restored carefully in recent years. As a major commercial center in southern Germany, Regensburg supplied the German nobility with luxury goods from far away for centuries, building incredible wealth that still shows today. Inspired by northern Italian cities such as Bologna, the merchants of Regensburg built massive patrician palaces. The entire inner city is an awe-inspiring ensemble of Romanesque and Gothic architecture. Regensburg was also a political and religious center: Seat of the Bavarian dukes since the end of the Roman era, the city was a frequent venue of imperial diets, the periodical meetings of Germany’s most powerful aristocrats, to discuss important issues with the emperor.

But the history of Regensburg began much before that - as a matter of fact, the location was chosen by the Romans for an impressive stone-walled legion camp built so strongly that its fortifications served as city walls well into the middle ages. Sections of this impressive structure can still be seen today.

As a trained official tour guide of historic Regensburg, I offer guided tours in English for groups of up to 25 individuals. The cost per group is currently EUR 88.00. Tours take 90 minutes to two hours. For further information or booking, please send an e-mail message. I request one week´s notice, if possible.

Among my colleagues are native speakers of Italian, French, Spanish, Hungarian, Russian, Ukrainian, Czech, Polish and Chinese, and I will be happy to refer you to a trained, certified tour guide who will show you the city in your preferred language.
